The Sheetrock (I understand that it’s called drywall in Not Alabama) is up throughout most of the new house, and I’ve been searching through TONS of photos of painted rooms online to find samples that I like. I love Pinterest for many reasons, but here the old gal really shines. I can go to my local Benjamin Moore store, pick some samples, then search “Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray,”
for example, and see multiple rooms painted in that color. This process is really helping me decide on a color palette.
Speaking of which, here’s what I’m thinking: mostly neutrals with dramatic cabinets. Since our house is farmhouse style, complete with sliding barn doors, I feel somewhat obligated to go with grays. Here’s the color palette I’m currently in love with.
I’ve been trying to find gray and greige colors that will work with the style of the house, our existing furniture, and work with each other. I’ve been using the Benjamin Moore Color Capture app
to look at colors next to each other, and that’s been working out okay (well, it’s worked perfectly except the app crashes literally every.single.time. that I attempt to favorite Decorator’s White.)
I am committed to using Benjamin Moore’s Ben paint because it covers beautifully and has zero VOCs, which I consider an absolute necessity with tiny humans in the house. So, for the purpose of this post all colors listed will be Benjamin Moore colors.
Thus far, I’m loving Stonington Gray as my main color.
However, Wickham Gray
and Gray Owl
are also strong contenders.
My husband really wants to shiplap the office. I mean, can you even have a modern farmhouse without shiplap? If we shiplap the office we’ll paint it white, but if we don’t I’m thinking revere pewter will work nicely.
It may not be an exact match to the office inspiration photo below, but it’s close enough.
For the master bedroom I think I want to use a light greige color. We have white bedding, ivory bedding, and navy bedding. I feel like a greige would work better than a cool gray with the ivory bedding, and go with everything else too. I’m leaning towards Edgecomb Gray for the master.
On the other side of the hallway, my daughter is insisting on a mermaid room. So I’m leaning towards Ocean Air for her little grotto. I think I’ll paint her bathroom white and use Ocean Air for her bathroom cabinet to bring the color into the bathroom without overwhelming the space.

That covers all the bedrooms save the baby’s room. A lot of the wall art in my son’s nursery is framed in barn wood. So I searched for greige colors that were almost white, and I think I’ve settled on Pale Oak. It’s a beautiful pale greige. I’d honestly be fine with painting the master this color too to condense the palette.
We’ll be using the bonus room that’s over the garage as a playroom/guest room. This is the room that I’m having the most trouble with. I love clean, white playrooms like these:

But I also LOVE color, and this is an opportunity to introduce a dramatic color. This is upstairs, far far away from the open concept below, after all.
How pretty would a Hale Navy playroom be?
Or what about an earthy green playroom? I love this green that’s called Rushing River.
Or what about this absolutely gorgeous green, Verdigris?
Decisions, decisions… What color would you go with?
